CRANE OSCILLATION

Any code or hints on how to eliminate system oscillations from lifting a weight with a crane?

What valve are you using?  There are valves with dual spools that have the ability to dampen by pressuring the rod end of the cylinder when the base end pressure is bouncing.  I assume you are using a load sense pump?

Hi Chuck,

I think I would approach this by trying to see if you could introduce some software controlled anti phase action into the crane valve control logic.

Also, are you 100% sure that that you are not getting some hydraulic system instability ? Sometimes the spool compensator, pump swash and other circuit valves operating characteristics can interact to set up instability in a crane boom function.

Try the IQAN feature "BWL filter", either in the SFC channel or on the COUT. It is good for eliminating oscillations while still reacting well to distinct operator input.
