TOC2 Error Code

Kerry Brock 12 months ago updated by JR Repair 1 month ago 6

I have a TOC2 flashing an error code that is not shown in the instruction book that I can find.

The left LED is steady green and the right LED flashes red, on/off every half second.

I am trying to get the application file from the TOC2, but when I try the two scenarios happen:

1. If I have the property "Low speed" checked, I get a "No response from IQAN system" message.

2. If I de-check the "Low speed" property, I get a "Invalid application. Please send a valid application to the IQAN system and try again" message.

I am guessing the flash code and messages are related.

What would cause the flash code?   Thanks!

The goal here is to get the application file from the TOC2 to help out with programming.

It does have a standard TOC2 part number, but we don't know if the application file has been changed.

Kerry, were you able to resolve this?  I needed to flash an old TOC2 that was in my toolbox for a customer as he fried his.  Have a bunch of new spares laying around and was not able to use my old laptops that used to work as for some reason they wouldn't cooperate either.  I picked up a $20 Insignia USB to RS-232 (DB9) cable and it was now able to work with Windows 11 without issues.  Here is the wiring I used on the 9 pin cable to the TOC2.

RS-232 on the DB9 pin grey I have to the TOC 2 connector. This works with the Insignia RS-232 (DB9) SKU: 5883029.

  1. Black: Not Used
  2. Brown to yellow pin A @3 pin to pin 5 @ TOC 2.
  3. Red to green pin B @3 pin to pin 13 @ TOC 2.
  4. Orange: Not Used
  5. Yellow to black pin C @3 pin to machine (or power supply) main ground.
  6. Green: Not Used
  7. Blue: Not Used
  8. Purple: Not used
  9. Gray: Not used

I'm unsure what connectors you are using to interface with the TOC2 so my apologies if this is too much info.  Obviously IQANdevelop was not designed to work with Windows 11, but as you can see in my situation I had no issues.  Here is a video of what I did.

One other note if using Windows 11.  You will want to find the location of the application on your disk (mine was local disk (C) / Program Files (x86) / IQANdevelop 4) and click Properties / Compatibility. Ensure that the Run this program in compatibility mode is checked and select Windows XP (Service Pack 3). Mine automatically did this when I loaded IQANdevelop.

Hi Jr,  I was not able to resolve the issue.  It's been several months ago, so I don't recall exactly what I did, but I finally gave up on getting the IQANdevelop file from the module and just flashed the standard file that is shipped with that particular TOC2 part number.  Thank you for the information.

Kerry, sounds good.  I wasn't sure if you were having issues because of the interface.  Finding info on these old setups can be fun!  When I was at Terramac we had built about 287 of the GEN1 and 2 RT9 units with the TOC2 and converted some Morooka TCX850's to this.  The TCX was why I needed to get back into one a few weeks ago and was not having luck with my old hardware.  I had seen your post and wasn't sure if you found a resolution.

JR

JR, I think the issue I was helping with was actually a corrupt file.  I have a bit of experience with the TOC2 and several applications under my belt, but never ran across this particular issue.  The chipset that the USB to serial adapter uses is key to being able to set up communication.  If I recall correctly, the FTDI and obviously the Prolific chipset shown in your video works.  Others do not.  I personally use a very old Compaq/HP USB to serial adapter that has always worked.

Ya, these were always a pain with the USB-8473 as every time you would hook up it did what it wanted to!  The adapter I used in the video was actually the easiest I ever worked with.  Glad you got yours resolved.  Funny part is I haven't been into a TOC2 in about 3 years and last week (after the TCX one!) an old customer called me with a failed one on his old Terramac RT9.  That's why I was messing around again to try and get one of these ready.  I could set him up with a new setup that uses an MC42 but he needs it ASAP and wants plug and play.  Somedays this can be a party!
