MC2 Questions

The MC2 unit is now obsolete, but we still have units in the field that we need to support, the MC2 unit went through 2 part numbers in its life time as I can see, 20070899 - replaced in 2015 by 20077787.

What is the difference between these unit and if I found an old one for sale would I still be able to use utilize it?

Can the MC2 unit (20077787) still be purchased by special order if needed?

Please see below from extracts from various MC2 datasheets, the MC2 has had 3 versions, original, M14 and M19. Original was updated with different USB hardware to create the M14, then the USB hardware was removed in the M19 model:

I believe all the IO remain the same so module functionality should be OK. Only issue would be having to upgrade the software to version to 2.61 or 3.14 if you use the M14 or above model. How do you download software currently? M19 model has the USB hardware removed so you would have to download via CAN, so a USB-CAN converter would be required for your PC. You may well already use CAN to download so may not be an issue for you.

In answer to your question, if you have access to version 2.61 or 3.14 and can download using CAN, any version will work, assuming this is a single master system.

Some distributors still have old stock, some used ones can also be found online. Try Rotec Hydraulics in the UK. Other alternative would be to switch out to a new MC4x module, that will require newer firmware but logic can be carried across fairly easily. Would future proof your design and most likely be cheaper than sourcing older modules in the longer term.
