Moving channels into subgroups
When draging channels into subgroups, it would be great if "Function group input channel (FGI)"s would be automatically created for each channel and keep all links working.
Would save a lot of tedious work.

Make the channel scope "public".
Or scope private; with private scope the value is available in sub groups but not throughout the application.

Have you used 6.08 for this? That has the feature enhancement that references are kept, they are just marked as errors.
You still need to manually create FGIs, but this makes it easier to know what to reconnect compared to earlier version.
I used 7.0 and it works as you describe it. I guess it's easier to just make the channels public
