Had this happen about a decade ago. Was in the middle of a project and he was let go. Nobody had the password and he would not give it up. I ended up redoing the program from scratch and learning a valuable lesson. Now we have a policy that all passwords are noted in the project documents (private to the engineering group) and we haven't had an issue since. Hopefully you have a better outcome than I did.
If you have access to the computer he worked on you might be able to open the project on that if he used the "remember password" function. You wont be able to get the actual password this way but you could get the file open.
You could then copy everything over to a new project and save it with a new password.
Keep in mind tough that this will be a new project and settings files will not work from the old one or vise versa.

So you never found a way to by pass the system i wonder if someone else could?
To start over could take months and i don't have the expertise to do it and the process of modifying it right now.
It took a month to modify after being created and we weren't done yet.
wow you think someone would have planned for something like this with a back door maybe only the home office could do or something!!
In the training for IQAN the instructor specifically said that they is no backdoors and Parker cannot recover any passwords.
