PDF Viewer on MD5-5
Wondering if there is a method of displaying PDFs on an MD5-5. Currently in the process of migrating our OEM application over to the MD5-5 platform from an MD4-5 and found that when pressing on the text control buttons to display pdfs the MD5 System Message popup indicates PDF viewer not available.

Hi Marc,
Is this while simulating or on the actual hardware?
I made two projects (In IQANdesign 6.08.x and 7.06.x) where I had a text button open a PDF and got this message:
Is that the message you got?
Last time I used the MD4 for viewing PDFs was several years ago, so my memory is a bit blurry, but I recall testing the PDF viewer on the hardware. I believe that you can not use the PDF viewer in simulation just as the message dictates.
Or do you know, for a fact, that you have done this before?
Kind regards,
Christopher Fridstaden
Hi Christopher,
Thanks for your response.
That is the message that I am getting on the actual MD5 hardware as well as when running the simulator.
I had no issue viewing PDFs with the MD4s.
I am guessing the PDF viewer is not included in the MD5 product
Hi Marc,
Ah, I see! It is on the hardware as well. This got me thinking though and I had a vague memory (again😊) that, in an old post in the forum, Parker had a list of not yet implemented functionality regarding the MD5. I looked it up and found this:
MD5 software, missing features and known issues / Knowledge base / IQAN
which says that support for PDF reader is planned.
This will not solve your problem but at least you know why it is not working.
Gustav/Parker will surely read this thread and fill in any blanks or additional information.
Kind regards,
Christopher Fridstaden
