Low side outputs protection diode

Guillaume Fournier 5 years ago in Expansion modules / XC2x updated by Gustav Widén (System support) 5 years ago 1

Hello,

I need to drive relays on low side outputs on the XC-23 and MD4-5.  Do I need to use relays with included coil protection diodes or if the outputs of these modules are already internally protected ?

Thanks,

Guillaume

The low-side switches do have protection that will cut the switching transient, but this is not designed for repetitive operation.

You should use a diode at the coil to avoid the transient.
