application input output vs j1939 input output for master modules

Zach 10 years ago in IQANdesign updated by Gustav Widén (System support) 5 years ago 5
I wondered about application inputs and outputs vs j1939 inputs and outputs for master module communication.
If I understood it correctly, an MC2 master received a digital value from an MD4 master module via an application in/out pair.
Then in another location in the program, the MD3 and MD4 exchanged information through J1939 pgns.

How do I know when to use Application in/out or J1939 in/out?

360° Rotation of Gauges

John Wambold 9 years ago in IQANdesign updated by Gustav Widén (System support) 6 years ago 7

I have an application where I am using a gauge to display the position of a rotating object. I make the 12 o'clock position the 0° point. I noticed that as my input is rotating from clockwise, that the needle on the gauge rotates counter clockwise from 359° back to 0°.

It would be nice to have the gauge continue to rotate in a clockwise direction as my input crosses the 0° threshold.

Unable to change visibility on multiple parameters at once

Matt 4 days ago in IQANdesign updated by Gustav Widén (System support) 4 hours ago 1

I'm working on creating a display page for an MD4 which dynamically shows and hides items depending on what option is selected. I'm finding that when selecting a few parameters at once, when I go to change what IDC is making them visible, that it reverts back to indeterminate as soon as I select a different item in the properties window.

multipacket reading

MScottM 5 days ago in IQANdesign updated 3 days ago 1

I need to read an incoming proprietary multipacket message (108 bytes) on an MD4-7.  When I look at a bus capture, I can see that the data bytes of interest are in the position I expect and I can 'decode' the values and see that they are also what I expect.

When I create an incoming JFIN and designate it 'Multipacket: Yes' IQAN does not seem to see the whole message; bytes above 8 are marked 'error: out of range'.  Another thing I notice about the data in the bus capture is that the 108 data bytes are repeated while the value of the frame-count byte (byte 0) increases by counts of 16 - meaning it starts at 0-16, then jumps to 32-47 (data is repeated), then jumps to 64-79 (data is repeated) and so on up to 224-239.

Is this normal multipacket behavior?  How do I properly decode this message in IQAN?

There is information like below but we could not connect the camera. What could be wrong? We are using MD4-7 screen.

12 bit message using big-endian

Codie 2 weeks ago in IQANdesign updated by Thomas Moberg (System support) 1 hour ago 1

Hello, I have a few 12 Bit messages that need to be received as big endian. Due to that the bits to receive on is 16 to 23 and then 28 to 31. I'm using a generic parameter in.

Function Parameter with Mode selector

James31 2 weeks ago in IQANdesign updated by Gustav Widén (System support) 1 hour ago 3

Hi All.

I am using a function parameter with mode selctor and want to be able to update values via an MD4 display and using the adjustment screen. I don't seem to be able to display anything other than mode one as an option to adjust via the screen. Since a application update does not change defult values I can't now change my mode 2+ function paramater values. Anyone help with what I am missing please?

Diag bus on C or D

I get a hint that "CAN port C or D not recommended for diagnostics". Can you explain why and what issues may arise from this?

Bus utilization of XC4x modules in MC43 & MD5 system

Kevin 3 weeks ago in IQANdesign updated by Gustav Widén (System support) 3 weeks ago 5

We are planning on having 1 x MC43FS M24 with a single expansion bus loaded with 5 x XC43 modules. All the IO on each module is not used but it would be nice to have them all the same modules for consistency throughout the system. Is there any concerns with bandwidth with 5 modules on a single bus or is it worth cutting as many down to the smaller XC42 or XC41 where possible? They may have lower bus utilisation with the smaller variants?

Are all the 5 x busses on the MC43 range the same throughput? (MD4 for example had faster busses on A and B I think).

We are planning on 6 x MD5 connected to the MC43, and I have reservations about bandwidth also on the master and diagnostics bus.

Is CAN FD coming soon? hopefully this will ease my concerns as there is not any real way of calculating bus loads, only measure when the system is complete?
